Overview of the Major Themes of HIStory

The Bible includes many themes; however, three of these themes stand out: Man's Sinfulness, God's Faithfulness and Restoration. The greatest of these themes is GOD'S FAITHFULNESS. How great is our God that He would even consider to save us and allow us to work in His kingdom.

Man's Sinfulness

00:00 / 01:04

As you read through the Bible, you will notice something very obvious - MAN'S SINFULNESS.  When Adam and Eve disobeyed God, the consequences were TERRIBLE.  And we can't help but notice that the "good" men, women, boys and girls of the Bible are actually not good at all; in fact, they are quite sinful.  The Bible is NOT a book about good people.  No, it is a book about sinners who need to be rescued.  The Bible is primarily about the RESCUER.  God through His Son Jesus rescues people from their sin.

God's Faithfulness

00:00 / 02:14

God is a God of COVENANT.  A covenant is a promise that CANNOT be broken.  And God does not break covenants.  He is faithful.  God makes a promise in Genesis 3:15.  He says, "I (God) will put enmity between you (Satan) and the woman and between your offspring and hers; he (Jesus) will crush your head and you (Satan) will strike his (Jesus's) heel."  God promises to CRUSH Satan's head.  Anyone with a crushed head is dead.

All through the Old Testament, we see God working to fulfill His this covenant, this promise.  He makes a covenant with Noah, with Abraham, with Isaac, with Jacob, and with David.  And He sends a crusher - a RESCUER.  And that RESCUER came through this family line of David.  God Himself lived amongst the people - Jesus who came to save his people from their sin.  And that Jesus died on a cross, the perfect sacrifice, and CRUSHED Satan.  God was FAITHFUL to His covenant.  And God FAITHFULLY continues to work in HIStory today.  And one day, all believers will enjoy the FULL benefits of God's covenant.  And they will enjoy those covenant blessings FOREVER.

What is the chief aim of man?  To glorify [this faithful] God [who keeps His covenants] and enjoy Him forever.

Restoration

00:00 / 02:25

When God rescued us through His Son Jesus, we became new creations.  We were given the Holy Spirit.   And because we have the Holy Spirit, we are changed to think, talk, and act LIKE JESUS.  We BECOME like Jesus.

Biblical throughlines are big picture that help us BECOME or BE like Jesus.    Throughlines are qualities/characteristics that we desire believers to develop as God is revealed to them in all things. They are discipleship concepts that guide our living. These characteristics describe how we can become part of the restoration of creation. They answer, “How NOW shall I live?” Throughlines weave the big ideas into a transformational worldview.   A key component of a church education program is that leaders are challenged not simply to tell the a believer about the throughlines but to provide actual opportunities for the them to “live” the throughlines.  Throughlines help us to BE followers of Christ.

Check out the link below, to learn what it means to BE a follower of Christ.  There are LITERALLY millions of ways to BE like Jesus.

It is time for the Church to BE like Jesus in thought, words, and ACTIONS.  We must LIVE our faith by RESTORING our relationship with God, others, ourselves and creation.
